How do soaps&detergents “wet”

A

Through the use of a surfactant which breaks the hydrogen bonds, the soap lowers surface tension allowing to spread rather than bead

Soap Structure

A

Carboxylate head with positive ion forming a salt. The hydrophobic non polar tail binds to no polar substances and the hydrophilic polar bonds to water and other polar solvents.

A

Similar to soaps with heads and tails, howeever head can be pos, neg, or neu allowing to function in hard water

saponification, triglycerides are broken with NaOH into 3 soaps and a glycerol
