Anion Identification Flashcards
Chloride
Silver in an acidic solution forms a white ppte. AgCl dissolves in dilute ammonia.
Bromide
Silver in an acidic solution forms a pale cream ppte. AgBr dissolves in concentrated ammonia.
Iodide
Silver in an acidic solution forms a pale yellow ppte. Does not dissolve in ammonia. Lead forms bright yellow ppte.
Hydroxide
Indicator test (Basic) or coloured ppte with transition metals
Acetate
FeCl3 forms a reddish brown solution that dissipates when dilute HCl is added.
Carbonate
Basic (Higher pH), Nitric acid forms CO2 turning limewater milky.
Sulphate
Barium in acidic solution forms thick white ppte. Lead form white ppte.
Phosphate
Barium in basic solution forms white ppte. Magnesium forms white ppte. In acidic solutions, ammonium molybdate forms yellow ppte.
