SOA | Living the Christian Life Flashcards
SOA that supports non-liturgical worship, and its significance and what it shows - PSALM 150
’ praise him with timbrel and dancing’
- it is significant as in PSALM 150, Christians are encouraged to use all types of instruments, singing and dancing to praise God.
- this shows that we should worship non-liturgically and emphasises an informal type of worship
SOA that supports the belief that Christians should go on pilgrimages - Luke 2:41-43 and its significance
’ Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem (…) Jesus stayed behind’
- this shows that Christians should go on a pilgrimage because Jesus did every year and as he is our ultimate example and so we should follow him
SOA that opposes the belief that Christians should go on pilgrimages and what it means and its significance ; Exodus 20:3-5
’ You shall have no other gods before me … nor idols’
This means that a Christians should not revere anyone other than God himself
- This is significant as pilgrims, when going on a pilgrimage tend to worship the shrines and relics which are there.
SOA that promotes missionary work and what it is known as and its significance
‘as the father has sent me , I am sending you’- John 20
‘ go to the world and preach the gospel’- Mark 16
- this is known as the great commission where Jesus told his followers to spread his word,
- it is significant as it encourages the spreading of the gospel and promotes missionary work.
SOA for outreach work - what it means and and its significance- To the Elders and the Flock -
1 Peter 5 - ‘ be shepherds of God’s flock … because you are willing’ ;
This means that Christians should lead others towards christianity.
This demonstrates that Christians should aim to help the community and should help others not because they have to but because they want to,
SOA that supports liturgical worship , what it is an example of and its significance.
Mathew 6: ‘ This is then how you should pray’ and then the lord’s prayer is given
This is an example of a set prayer used in liturgical worship.
This is significant because Jesus told Christians to pray in this way and we should follow in his example.
SOA that goes against missionary work what it means and its significance.
’ be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others’
This means that one should practice their faith alone and in private to make it more genuine and authentic.
This is significant because it shows that one should focus on themselves and their own faith and not to concern yourself with other people
SOA that promotes good acts and missionary work what it means and its significance
The Parable of the Sheep and the Goats
Here, Jesus explains that those who help others and believe will go to heaven and those who do not will go to hell.
This is significant as it encourages christians to help those in need and participate in some form of missionary work as helping a person is just the same as helping Jesus himself and is therefore a duty for all Christians.
