Smart Materials Flashcards
describe titanium
extremely corrosion resistant metal , high strength to weight ratio , expensive and used in air and spacecraft , dental implants , bone replacements bikes
shape memory alloys
they remember their original shape , they can return to original shape when heated above a certain temperature
For example nitinol - glasses frame , if it bends it can be heated in water to return to shape
photochromic pigments
they change colour in response to light for example sunglasses that change colour when its sunny
