made of several levels of softwood or hardwood and glued together at their grain at right angles so its Very Strong for weight and thickness , popular for building and furnitures

made by compressing and gluing wood chips shavings and sawdust together and used with a veneered surface on top,, cheap but not very strong , its also absorbant so moisture can easily damage it , often in cheap self assembly furniture - eg ur coffee table
