Small Intestine, Large Intestine, Duodenum, Ileum And Jujunem Flashcards
What are the three parts of the small intestine?
Duodenum (25cm)
Ileum (2/5 of upper small intestine)
Jejunum (3/5 of lower small intestine
Describe the nerve supply of the small intestine.
Sympathetic (t9-t11) and parasympathetic (vagus) nerves via the coeliac and superior mesenteric plexuses.
Describe the blood supply of the jejunum and ileum.
They are supplied via the jejunal and ileal branches of superior mesenteric arteries.
What are the relations of the anterior view of the second part of the duodenum?
Liver
Gallbladder
Transverse colon and mesocolon
Loop of small intestine
What is the posterior relations of the 2nd part of the duodenum?
Right kidney
Right suprarenal gland
Right renal vessels
Inferior vena cava
Aorta
Right posas major
Describe the blood supply of the duodenum.

Quadrate
Give the blood supply of the caecum.
Caecal branches of the ileocolic arteries
What does the lips of the ileocecal valve form?

Where is the caecum developed?
Proximal part of caecal bud, midgut
Where is the appendix developed?
Distal part of caecal bud, midgut.
What is the site for maximum tenderness for appendicitis?
McBurney’s point
State the nerve supply of the large intestine.
Midgut - T11 - L1 ( sympathetic) and Parasympathetic vagus.
Hindgut - L1-L2 (sympathetic) and parasympathetic.
Note: What is the blood supply of the colon?
