Phyarnx And Esophagus. Flashcards
List the three parts of the Pharynx.
Orophayrnx - oral part
Nasopharynx- nasal part
Laryngopharynx- laryngeal part
List the 5 boundaries and the nasopharynx.
Roof, floor, posterior wall and 2 lateral walls.
Define the Pharyngeal tonsil.
The structure is an aggregate of the lymphoid tissue that lies along midline of the roof and posterior wall of the nasopharynx.
What is the line of communication between the oropharynx and nasopharynx.
Pharyngeal isthmus.
What is the line of communication between the oral cavity and the oropharynx.
Oropharyngeal isthmus.
What is the nerve supply of the oropharynx.
Glossopharyngeal nerve.
State the nerve supply of nasopharynx.
Maxillary nerve
What is the nerve supply of the laryngopharynx?
Branches of the vagus nerve.
What is the nerve supply of the nasopharynx
Branches of the maxillary nerve.
What is the nerve supply of the piriform fossa?
Internal laryngeal nerve.
What is the Pharyngeal Lymphatic Ring?
An incomplete circular ring of lymphatic tissue around the superior part of the pharynx.
How is the Pharyngeal lymphatic ring formed?
Is is formed from the tubal, palatine, lingual and pharyngeal tonsils.
What is the function of the pharyngeal lymphatic ring?
It acts as a first line of dense for microbes that enters the body via the oral and nasal routes.
List the muscles of the pharynx.
Superior, middle and inferior constrictor muscles
Palatopharyngeus muscles
Stylopharyngeus muscles
Salpingopharyngues muscles
What is the function of the outer constrictor muscles of the pharynx?
Constrictors contract involuntarily so that contractions takes place sequentially from the superior to the inferior part of the pharynx, propelling food into the esophagus.
