Skull Foramina and Cranial Nerves Flashcards
Foramen Lacerum
has a membrane covering it, internal carotid A passes over it
Stylomastoid Foramen
Facial N (CN 7)
Jugular Foramen
Sigmoid Sinus which becomes internal jugular vein; contains CN 9, 10, and 11, all go into foramen magnum, and come back out jugular foramen. Also contains meningeal branches of occipital and ascending pharyngeal arteries
Carotid Foramen
becomes carotid canal which contains the carotid artery. Posterior circulation (vertebral A) and common carotid A splits to Internal carotid A external carotid A
Foramen Magnum
Spinal cord, vertebral arteries, spinal part of accessory nerve, anterior and posterior spinal arteries; tectorial membrane
Middle Cranial Fossa
Contains Optic Canal
Anterior Cranial Fossa
Contains the foramen caecum that transmits an emissary vein
Incisive Foramen
transmits nasopalatine , nerves and vessels
Greater and Lesser palatine foraminae
Transmit the greater and lesser palantine nerves and vessels
