skinner-operant conditioning Flashcards
what did skinner record?
the behaviour of animals in response to different consequences, using shaping; a procedure in which reinforcers, such as food, gradually guide an animals action towards a desired behaviour.
what was skinners box?
contained a lever for animals such as a rat or pigeon to press for food to be delivered. also had a speaker and lights that could be used to trigger a behaviour and a shock generator was connected to the floor to deliver an electric response to a behaviour.
when is a stimulus response association only repeated or learnt?
if the consequence of the paining is a positive one
negative consequences would weaken the stimulus response link.
what is antecedent?
abc model
a stimulus or situation that occurs before the behaviour acts as a trigger or due for the behaviour to occur.
what does the ABC model consist of
antecedent
behaviour
consequence
what is behaviour?
abc model
observable action performed by the individual in response to the antecedent
what is consequence (abc model)
what 2 things can it either do?
outcome/result that follow behaviour
can either reinforce or punish behaviour influencing likelihood of it being repeated in the future
what is the primary reinforcer of skinners experiment?
getting food when hungry or being relieved of electric shock
innately satisfied
what is the secondary reinforcement of skinners experiment?
learned that they get their power through association with primary reinforcers
if a rat in skinners box learns that the light reliably signals good whay will it do?
what does the light become?
the rat will worn to turn if the lights.
the light has become a secondary reinforcer associated with food.
what was the response rate in skinners box?
the rate at which the rat pressed the lever.
what would be the extinction rate of skinners box
the rate at which the lever pressing died out
