Skinner Flashcards
Learning theory - OC
What is the process called?
Operant conditioning
What does the mother do in this process?
They reward the infants by feeding them
What happens as a result of this?
The infant associates the mother with the reward and repeats any action that brings her close
Why does this happen?
The food brings a feeling of pleasure to the baby
What does food being a primary reinforced mean?
By removing discomfort, it reinforces the behaviour that led to its arrival
What does the mother’s presence contribute to this?
The food never comes without the mother bringing it so the mother becomes the secondary reinforcer.
What does the baby feel as a result?
The presence of the caregiver reduces discomfort and brings a feeling of pleasure, even without food
Conclusion of the process?
The baby will therefore repeat any action which brings the caregiver close (e.g. crying)
