- gross contamination
- animal bites - typically close facial wounds, consider others case by case
- old laceration - up to 18 hours for clean, non infected laceration to body and up to 24 hours on the face
lacerations - time frame for closure

up to 18 hours on clean wounds, on body
up to 24 hours clean wounds on face

no need to shave hair, avoid razors
lacerations - indications for wound adhesives

- wounds < 4-6 hrs old
- clean and linear
- bleeding controlled
- no increased tension on the wound
- does not involve a joint, mucous membrane
- not from an animal bite
lacerations repair anesthesia options + needle G
4
- lidocaine - 0.5, 1, 2% quick onset 3-5 minutes, short acting 30-60 mins
- bupivacaine 0.25 or 5% slower onset 8-12 mins, longer lasting 2-4 hrs
- lidocaine and bupivacaine w/ epi - ideal for highly vascular areas
- recommend 25-30 G needle
