Skill weaknesses Flashcards
Why was strength endurance a weakness for the performer
(time, competiton, arousal/o2 uptake, breathing)
Strength endurance
As this performance is a sufficient length, at some stages you can see the performers energy levels drop.
As this competition is high level , this may have caused him to expend too much energy too quickly at the start of the performance which made it harder for him throughout the routine to have clean execution.
Also high arousal can lead to rapid, inefficient breathing and elevated heart rate, reducing oxygen uptake and delivery to muscles. This meant that the dancer tired faster and their strength decreased
Why was his barrel turn a weakness for the performer
(height,no momentum, AMT,
Barrel Turn Execution
The dancer’s execution of the barrel turn lacked sufficient height, likely due to a loss of momentum and energy following the sideways roll to stand up.
This preceding movement required the dancer to transition from a low position, meaning they had less built-up force to propel themselves into the jump.
As a result, the take-off lacked the necessary power, leading to a lower elevation and reducing the visual impact of the turn.
According to angular momentum theory, generating insufficient rotational force and torque affects the height and speed of the spin. - resulting in a poorly excuted barrel turn
To improve, the dancer should focus on engaging their legs and core more effectively after standing up, ensuring they generate enough explosive force for maximum height.
Strengthening endurance and refining the transition will help maintain power and create a more dynamic execution.
Why was his timing in the pyramid a weakness for the performer
(pyramid, impact, effect on routine)
The dancer struggled with timing during the pyramid section, leading to slight discrepancies in synchronization with the rest of the team.
In high-level performances, especially at World of Dance, precise timing is crucial to creating clean formations and maintaining visual cohesion.
Especially when the whole team look in sync.
A delay in transitions or movements can disrupt the overall effect of the routine, making it appear less polished.
Why was his arm lines a weakness for the performer
(extension, impact, symetry, lack of?)
The dancer’s arm lines in the pyramid lacked consistency and extension, reducing the overall impact of the formation.
Strong, clean arm lines are essential in formations, as they contribute to visual clarity and enhance the performance’s aesthetic appeal.
Slight variations in angles and placement affected the symmetry of the group, making the positioning appear less refined.
This could be attributed to a lack of muscular endurance and flexibility in the upper body, particularly in the shoulders and arms
Why was his energy levels a weakness for the performer
(positioning, height, inverted u, arousal
Energy levels- When the dancer was at the back of the positions, it was clear that he didn’t always have the same energy as his peers and had delayed timing- this could be due to fatigue.
However, could be seen more as he’s tall so it effected the overall flow of the performance in some stages
This can be explained from the inverted u theory which suggests that optimal performance occurs at a moderate level of arousal. If arousal is too low- performance quality drops and if too high can lead to decreased coordination. High arousal could have caused him to have early fatigue
