Balance
The ability to maintain your centre of mass over a base of support. There are two types
• Static Balance
• Dynamic Balance
e.g - a gymnast would use STATIC balance when performing a handstand on the beam and DYNAMIC balance when tumbling on the floor.
Agility
The ability of the body to move quickly and precisely or change direction without losing balance or time.
Coordination
The ability of parts of the body to work together to move smoothly and accurately.
Power
The work done in a unit of time. Calculated: power=force(kg)xdistance(m)/time(min or s) This is expressed as: kilogram-metres per minute (kgm/min) or kilogram-metres per second (kgm/s)
Reaction Time
The time taken for a sports performer to respond to a stimulus; for example, the time taken for a footballer to analyse a goal-scoring opportunity and decide to attempt a shot at goal by starting the kicking/ heading action.
