skill acquisition Flashcards
what is the definition of skill acquisition?
how we receive and process information and how we learn, develop and use skills
what is the definition of skill
skill is a learned ability to bring about predetermined results with a maximum certainty often with minimum outlay of time or energy or both
what does ace face stand for?
aesthetically pleasingly, consistent, efficient, fluent, accurate, controlled, economical
what are the skill continua
open-closed, discrete-serial-continuous, gross-fine, selfpaced-externally paced, high-low, simple-complex
difference between open and closed continuum
open has external factors, externally paced and lots of decisions whereas closed us self paced, prelearnt in set routine and require minimal adjustments
what is an open skill
an example is a football match, an attacker trying to dribble past a defender. external factors may be involved and decisions are to be made
what is a closed skill
golf swing, not affected by the environment which is predictable stable and constant
what is a gross skill
weightlifting, large muscle groups are used, larger muscular movements, accuracy is not a priority
what is a fine skill
table tennis serve, smaller muscle groups are used, small movements, accuracy and precision are vital factors
what is a self paced skill
long jump/archery, usually closed, performer controls the start and speed
what is an externally paced skill
football match, usually open, performer changes speed of movement in relation to people’s actions
what is a simple skill
dribbling, little movements, foundation to more complex skills
what is a complex skill
beam routine, difficult, various muscle groups used cohesively high levels or coordination and control
what is a low organisation skill
single flip on trampoline, can be broken into sub parts when practiced(they can all be practiced separately before putting skills together)
what is a high organisation skill
hard to break down into seperate parts, skill has to be practiced as a whole
