SKEPTICISM Flashcards
What is philosophical scepticism?
Philosophical scepticism is a philosophical attitude which questions the notion that absolute knowledge and certainty are possible.
-the attitude that we can’t be absolutely sure about anything- especially when it comes to knowledge
What are the two types of scepticism?
-Moderate scepticism
-Extreme scepticism
What is extreme scepticism?
Extreme scepticism denies that knowledge is possible
-Has never accepted a philosophical position because it leads to a paradox
What is moderate scepticism
Moderate skepticism holds that while we might not be able to know everything with absolute certainty, we can still have reliable knowledge in some areas. It suggests that there are limits to what we can know for sure, but we can still trust many of our beliefs, especially those based on experience or evidence.
