Who was John Locke and what did he state?
John Locke was an empiricist
-Said that people taste, smell, touch, see, and hear the external world
-Stated that the mind was a blank state until a sense experience occurred
-The term “sensation” describes our experience of the world.
How does sensation produce an idea?
This sensation produces a impression on the mind. The mind thinks about these impressions- called reflection
-This reflection eventually creates the idea
What is a simple idea?
simple sensations (colour, taste, and texture) and impressions (subjective experience of something)
What is a complex idea?
Combining and reflecting on simple sensations creates a complex idea
