Q

How does the skeletal system support the body?

A

Bones provide structural framework of the body.
Support soft tissue and provide attachment points for tendons of the skeletal muscle

Q

How does the skeletal system assist in movement of the body?

A

Bones act as levers
Skeletal muscle contraction pulls on bone producing movement

Q

Briefly describe the function of calcium in the body

A

Calcium moves between the skeleton, teeth and blood plasma. It contributes to the harness of the bones and teeth and plays a role in blood clotting, muscle tone nerve impulse conduction and muscular contraction.

Q

What is a function of articular cartilage?

A

Reduces friction/prevents wear and tear at joints

17
Q

What is the difference between compact and spongy bone in regards to their structure and location?

A

Compact bone is dense while spongy bone is spongy and less dense. Compact bone is found at the edges of the bones (walls) while spongy bone is found at the epiphysis
