Bone
Hard connective tissue that forms most of adult skeleton

Supports body, facilitates movement, protects internal organs, produces blood cells, stores/releases minerals and fat
Bone marrow
Soft connective tissue that fills interior of most bone
Yellow marrow
Contains adipose, tissue, the triglycerides stored here can be used as an energy source
Red marrow
Hematopoiesis (production of blood cells) takes place here
Long bone
cylindrical in shape, longer than it is wide
Short bone
Cube-like in shape; equal in length, width, and thickness
Flat bone
typically thin, but also often curved
Irregular bone
Not an easily characterized shape, tend to have more complex shape
