Skeletal Muscular Anatomy Flashcards
1
Q
What is Actin?
A
Actin is a spherical protein that forms the thin filament in muscle cells. Each actin molecule has a myosin-binding site where a myosin head can bind.
2
Q
What is Myosin?
A
Myosin is a motor protein that generates the force in a muscle contraction much like the stroke of an oar. It consists of a head and a tail region. The myosin heads project outward toward the actin like the oars of a rowboat.
3
Q
What is sarcomere?
A
The basic unit of striated muscle tissue.
4
Q
What is endomysium?
A
Is a wispy layer of areolar connective tissue.
5
Q
What is sarcolemma?
A
The fine transparent tubular sheath which envelops the fibres of skeletal muscles.
