describe the strucutre of flat bones

A

suture are lines of cartilage of which hold the peices of the skull together. the cross section of the bones is made of three layers, inner compact, spongy and outer compact.

describe the make up of the compact bone

A

The blood vesses run through the central canal which is surronded by layers of lamellae, these are called osteon, round these are they external circumferential lamellae which lies just bellow the periosteum, which is attached through perforating fibers.

descibe bone cells and their function

A

Osteocytes - mature cells that cannot divide, they maintain the mineral content and matrix.
Osteoblasts - produces new bone matrix by making and releasing protiens and organic compounds.
Osteoclasts - Cells that remove bone and rescycles thoes cells later.
