What is Sjogren’s syndrome?
Autoimmune condition affecting exocrine glands causing symptoms of dry membranes.
What are the symptoms of dry mucous membranes and what condition are they associated with?
- Dry mouth/eyes/vagina

What is the difference between primary and secondary Sjogren’s syndrome?
Primary - occurs in isolation
Secondary - occurs in relation to SLE/RA
Which antibodies is Sjogren’s syndrome associated with?
Anti-Ro and Anti-La
What is the Schirmer test and what condition does it identify?
- Paper under lower eyelid, leave in then measure distance fluid has travelled.
- Sjogren’s syndrome
How is Sjogren’s syndrome managed?
- Artificial tears and saliva
- Vaginal lubricants
- Hydroxychloroquine to halt progression
What are the ocular complications of Sjogren’s syndrome?
Conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers
What are the oral complications of Sjogren’s syndrome?
Dental cavities and candida infections
What are the vaginal complications of Sjogren’s syndrome?
Candidiasis and sexual dysfunction
What are the systemic complications of Sjogren’s syndrome?
Pneumonia, bronchiectasis, Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, peripheral neuropathy, vasculitis, renal impairment.
