six phases of the viral replication cycle Flashcards
1
Q
- adsorption
A
when a virion attaches to a cell membrane, absorbed into cell membrane
2
Q
- penetration
A
enzymes that are normally on cell membrane are weakened and thus allowed the virion to penetrate through the cell membrane and enter the cell
3
Q
- uncoating
A
protective coat of virion goes away and now you have virus inside the cell ready for replicaiton
4
Q
- replication
A
happens inside the host cell as long as the host cell does not have a way of stop it from happening
5
Q
- assembly
A
virus matures here, virus assembles in order to escape from original cell
6
Q
- release
A
when new virions are released from host cell and move on to the next cell to keep replicating. Original virion is the only one left in the host cell
