What happens when one SIV fails on a 3 car unit?
Other SIV will automatically take up load for both
Only one AC operates
Only 1 Air compressor operates
Battery fault light may illuminate for 2 minutes while it changes over to the other SIV
Traction cooling fans and saloon lighting unaffected
What equipment is affected if two SIVs fail on one unit?
400vAC will be lost:
Battery charger
Air compressors
Traction cooling fans
HVACS
What do you do to rectify SIV faults?
Attempt to reset CB in TC
Train Stable
If both SIVs have failed and unable to rectify what do you do?
1 hour to move train in degraded mode to nearest siding
How is each door controlled?
Electric motor in panel to the left side of each door.
No. 1 door motor in panel in drivers cab
What positions does the Door Motor Isolation Switch have?
Motor Release (all the way up)
Motor Isolate (45 deg. above horizontal)
Normal (horizontal)
Motor Lock close (45 deg. below horizontal)
What do you do with a FDCL between stations?
Assume somebody is on train
Check if DER is illuminated
If DER illuminated acknowledge PEI call
PA to stand clear of doors
TEC call
Reduce speed
Observe train
Stop at next platform to investigate
What happens if you get FDCL mid section and you have to stop?
You have to rectify FDCL. Once stopped train won’t move
or
Turn Door Loop Bypass
What do you do with FDCL at a platform?
Release doors
PA announcement - stand clear remove obstacles
Close doors and check if still there
PA announcement asking passengers for help
Cab unattended, close doors, portable radio, TMM, stickers, locate fault
TEC call while in transit to affected door
What indication do you get of a faulty door?
Tone sounds for 60 seconds
What indication do you get in leading cab when a DER is operated?
FDCL
DER Emergency Handle Activated fault light
Flashing Red ANSW button
DDU beeps
How do you isolate a defective door?
Locate door
Open overhead cabinet to left of door
Motor Isolation Switch to Motor Release (fully raised)
Manually close door
Motor Isolation Switch to Motor Lock Close (fully lowered)
Apply door not in use stickers
Report as per FMP
What happens when you get a Traction Fault?
TCU analyses and attempts to rectify
Automatically isolates equipment
What indication do you get of a Traction Fault?
Traction Fault light (this car)
1 or more traction Equip. Fault (train lined)
No green LEDs on power indicator when powering
Possible shuddering while train is in motion
How do you rectify a Traction Fault?
Isolate Traction isolation switch
Train stable

Activate each cab one by one and locate cab that has both ‘Tration Fault’ light and ‘1 Or More Traction Equip.’ fault light
