hot, dry, and cold regions
Intermediate zone
Intermediate zone concerns:
a. Dense brush.
b. Deep vegetation.
c. Research flood plains and any unusual conditions effecting site development.
Wet warm regions with rain forests
tropical zone
Tropical zone concerns:
a. Initial base set up is crucial.
b. Sub-grade soil characteristics.
c. Groundwater and surface drainage are the primary planning considerations.
regions in the Northern hemisphere
Frigid Zone
Frigid Zone concerns:
a. Deep snow.
b. Seasonally frozen ground.
c. Frozen lakes, rivers, and glaciers.
d. High winds may lead to deterioration of shelters.
e. Frozen Terrain – building your site and waste management are the biggest concerns.
f. Altitude – high altitude will require adjusting to the oxygen difference. Hypoxia can cause low blood oxygen that can lead to disorientation.
g. Slope – Drainage could cause flooding during heavy rains.
hot humid coastal or the hot dry interior desert environment
Desert Zone
Desert Zone concerns:
a. High temps lead to heat injuries.
b. Little potential for nearby water sources.
c. Wind circulation or sand storms may damage tents.
Living Facilities should be placed:
At least 50ft from latrines
Sleeping away from flight-line due to noise
