Prelude to war.

A
  1. 1894 a rebellion against the corrupt Korean government of the King of Korea.
  2. King requested Japanese and Chinese troops to help quash the rebellion.
  3. Both countries refused to withdraw troops.
  4. Ito Hirobumi demanded changes to the Korean government where China disagreed.
  5. Japan seized the Kings palace, in order the declare Korea as an I dependent state.
  6. Chinese reinforcements arrived, and was sunk by Japanese navy
  7. A state of war existed.

A

Signed 17 April 1895 by China.

  1. China had to recognise Korea as independent state.
  2. Liaotung peninsula given to Japan
  3. Gained nation rights against China
  4. China paid 200 million tales.
