Single Factor Experiments Flashcards
Independent group designs
Independent groups of participants are randomly assigned to two different treatment conditions
Repeated measures design
Every participant is exposed to each of the two treatment conditions
Carry over effects
Effects due to the order and sequence in which treatment conditions are presented
Controlling carry over effects:
Counterbalancing: order of treatments
Matched pair design
Each participant is matched to one other participant on one or more characteristics and each one of a matched pair is randomly assigned to one of the two treatment conditions
Possible outcomes
Increasing and decreasing effects or no outcome
Independent group designs in multi level
Independent groups of participants are randomly assigned to k different treatment conditions
Repeated measure design in multi level
Every participant is exposed to each of the k treatment conditions
Order effects
Effects due to the ordinal position of a given treatment condition
Sequence effect
Effects due to prior exposure to other treatment conditions
Possible outcomes
Linear function Non linear function Positively accelerated function Negatively accelerated function Cyclical function
