What are single-blind studies?
Where ppts do not know if they are in the experimental condition or the control or the control condition, but the researcher does.
What are double blind studies?
Where neither the researcher or ppts know what condition they are in.
What is a Lie Scale?
Refers to having two items that are asking the same thing, but in opposite ways. For example a scale measuring depression imagine that each item asks participants to rate from 1 to 5, with one being ‘completely disagree’ and 5 being ‘completely agree’
What is demand Characteristics?
Where participants change their behaviour due to guessing the aims of the study.
What is social desirability bias?
The tendency to underreport socially undesirable attitudes and behaviours and to over report more desirable attributes to be seen in a more positive light.
What is investigator effects?
These are any unwanted influences that the investigator communicates to the participants which affects their behaviour. For example, being more encouraging towards the young participants in the memory test, ass this is the expected result.
What is confirmation bias?
The tendency to seek out and prefer information that supports our pre-existing beliefs a result, we tend to ignore and information that contradicts those beliefs.
