Q

Why do simple molecular substances have very low melting and boiling points?

A

The intermolecular forces between molecules are very weak so they can be easily parted from eachother. (Most are gas or liquid at room temp)

Q

Why does bromine have higher melting point than chlorine?

A

The strength of intermolecular forces depend on the size of the molecules. Bromine is larger than chlorine and therefore has stronger intermolecular forces so more energy is needed to break them.
