Simone: Spirometry Flashcards
Spirometry
Lung Function test
Procedure
- Do height and weight measurements
- Ask Px to sit with feet on the floor and loosen tight fitted clothing
- Add/Select data
- Put in data
- Explain whats going to happen
- Tell yhem to choose mouth piece and put it in machine
- Tell then to take a deep breath in and put their mouth firmly iver mouth piece
- Press start
- Count to 3
- Encourage patient to blow out as hard as possible
- When at graoh midline encourage to take a deep breath in
Graph
Flow volume loop
Respiratory acidosis
Excess CO2 in bloodstream due to impaired lung function
AAT protein
Protects elastic tissue in lungs
Decreasing lactic acidosis
Deep breaths
Exercise
Shorter bouts of PA
Containdications
- Unstable CV status
- Aneurysm
- Recent eye/throacic/abdominal surgery
- Nausea/Vomitting
FEV1
Forced Expiration Volume in 1sec: volume of air expired in first second under force after maximal inhalation
FVC
Forced Vital Capacity: total volume of air that can be exhaled during maximal forced expiration effort
FEV1/FVC ratio
% of Forced Vital Capacity expired in 1sec
TLC
Total lung capacity: volume of air in lungs @Maximal inflation
FRC
Functional residual Capacity: Volume of air in lungs @resting end-expiration
RV
Residual Volume: Volume of air remaining in lungs after maximal exhalation
Norms
FEV1: >80%
FVC: >80%
FEV1/FVC: 70%
Restrictive lung disease
Decreased lung volume eg scoliosis
-low FVC
