Q

Procedure for taking BP

A
  1. Sit for 5min
  2. Left arm rest at heart level
  3. Feet on the floor
  4. Wrap cuff around arm above antecubital fossa
  5. Place stethoscope over brachial artery pulse
  6. Inflate cuff to 170mmHg
  7. Release slowly
  8. 1st beat =SBP
  9. beats disapear=DBP
  10. Wait 60sex then repeat

Q

How do body position and arm position affect blood pressure?

A

BP generally increases from supine to sitting to standing.
We want the arm at the level of the heart so that it is closely approximated to the level of the right atrium

Q

Why can blood Pressure not be 0

A

Pressure is needed to maintain blood flow during resting phase. So even when heart is @resr there is pressure in atrial system due ti elastic recoil
