Sim 118A&B Study Flashcards

1
Q

When setting thrust during T/O what limits will the a/t set thrust to?
What are the manual adjustments required?

A

A/t could overshoot N1 by upto 4% settling to +/- 2% before thr hold engages.
If manual adjustment is required set -0% to +1%

Note: Thr hold prevents unwanted thrust lever movement in case of a malfunction.

Q

What scenario would allow a higher t/o weight using a fixed derate?

A

On contaminated rwy when VMCG is the limiting factor a fixed derate will allow a lower VMCG allowing a higher weight to be carried

Q

When using a fixed derate or atm/fixed derate t/o can you advance thrust levers after an engine failure if reqd?

A

No only advance thrust lever in a situation such as windshear due to possible vmca limitations.

Q

What are the possible symptoms of volcanic ash encounter?

A
  • Odour (Smokey, acrid electrical burning, sulphuric type smell)
  • Haze
  • Changing engine conditions ( surging, temp fluctuations, flameout)
  • Airspeed ( pitot could get blocked resulting in erratic airspeed)
  • pressurisation ( can change including total loss)
  • static discharge( similar to st Elmo’s fire).
