Silver Diamine Fluoride Flashcards
What is the most prevalen chronic disease in early childhood?
ECC- early childhood caries
What are the different types of treatment of caries?
- Restorations- tech sensitve, costly, requires cooperation
- Silver Diamine Floride- non invasive, affordable, fast, painless
Silver diamine is used in dentistry to?
reduce dentinal hypersensitivity
What is SDF made of?
Silver nitrate 25%- antimicrobial agent
Water- liquid base for the mixture
Fluoride (5%)- remineralized enamel
Ammonia (8%)- stabilizer
38% Silver Diamine Fluoride
What are some indications?
- xerostomia
- early childhood caries
- high risk caries
- uncooperative patients- age, cognitive, dental phobia
What are some contraindications?
- Allergy to silver or any other ingredient
- Ulcerative gingivitis or stomatitis
- Preg
- Irreversible pulpitis or direct exposure
- inadequate isolation of tooth and oral tissues
What does the silver compound from SDF Do?
block the diffusion of acid and invasion od microorganisms into the dental tubules
inhibits further growth
What is Oligodynamic ?
metal that is natural antimicrobial
Fluoride increases resistance of what to what?
Dentin
acid
SDF reacts with hydroxyapatite of tooth to release __ and ___ resulting in hardening of affected dentin?
Calcium fluoride and silver phosphate
What is remineralization?
When fluoride ions enhances calcification of tooth and restores lattice imperfection and improves crystallinity of hydroxyapatite
How often is the SDF procedure done?
every 6 months
What does SMART technique stands for?
Silver
