Sight Flashcards
Posterior Cavity:
Vitreous body, jelly holding retinal layer in place
Anterior Cavity:
Aqueous humor, watery solution similar to CFS
Fibrous Tunic:
Sclera (white of the eye), Cornea (clear window for vision)
Vascular Tunic:
Choroid, Iris, Ciliary Body
Neural Tunic:
Retina, Optic Nerve
Iris:
Controls amount of light let into the eye with constrictor and dilator muscle via the autonomic nervous system
Ciliary Body:
Alters the shape of the lense with Ciliary muscle and suspensory ligaments
Retinal:
Retinal pigment epithelium, which absorbs light and phagocytises dead photoreceptors.
Photopigment:
Detects light with opsin and retinal. Retinal changes conformation when light is absorbed
Photoreceptor:
Synaptic terminal, inner segment (cellular machinery), and outer segment, which contains photopigments in membranous discs
Bipolar Cells:
Synapse between photoreceptor and ganglion cells
Ganglion Cells:
Sensory neurons which take the information to the brain
