What are the se’s of Bisphosphonates?

What steps can be done to reduce the risk of the main se’s?

A

➊ • Oesophageal reactions, such as oesophagitis, oesophageal ulcers, erosions and strictures
• Jaw osteonecrosis
• Hypocalcaemia

➋ • Take whole, with lots of water
• Take on an empty stomach at least 30 mins before breakfast
• After taking, remain upright for at least 30 mins

  • Adrenal suppression
  • Immunosupression
  • Cushingoid appearance - central obesity, buffalo hump, moon face
  • Thinning of skin
