Q

Why is it necessary to shut down the immune response?

A

Macrophages & neutrophils secrete ROS that kill the bacteria but can also harm our own tissue. This is bad, so once the antigen density goes down we need to turn this off.

Q

What is idiotype regulation?

A

Idiotype regulation is where the antibodies bind to other self antibodies to eliminate them; they get taken to the spleen where macrophages will eat them

Q

Why are excess antibodies bad?
