What is the definition of Shunting?
(Mod SS2 Page 5)
Any movement of a train other than a train passing in the normal direction.
If you become out of contact with shunter, what must you do?
Stop immediatley
Before shunting starts what must you and the shunter establish?
A clear understanding.
What exactly nees to be done.
How will the shunting movement be controlled (hand signals, bell buzzer codes?)
What must you do if the shunters hand signals or buzzer codes arent clear or accurate
Stop and confirm with shunter
You must always drive from the leading cab, WHEN?….
(onto , into , upto)
- into a building or shed.
- Up to a buffer stop
- On to another train
- within a depot or stabling siding.
What must you do when leaving a train on a running line?
Secure train.
Set tail lights at both ends if line is bi-directional (like Man Vic)
Tell the signaller, unless its normal in that area
If stabling a train at a buffer stop or dead end line, what must you do with your lights?
Make sure lights at the end replicate the buffer stop lights.
If buffer stop lights are RED then place red lights on.
You must not uncople on a running apart from 3 places, name them?
- Signal Box
- Signal
- Platform
What must you ensure when shunting is complete?
Not fouling any other lines
Clear of any points that need to be moved
Left within the protection of any trap points, derailers or scotch blocks
Trains are properly secured to prevent them from moving
What must you do if shunting over points worked froma ground frame?
That the points are left in the normal position
