Q

Lane, JAVMA 2023
Synthesis of surgeon and rehabilitation therapist treatment methods of bicipital tenosynovitis in dogs allows development of an initial consensus therapeutic protocol

[not in the abstract but]

Q

Holman, VCOT 2024
Quantification of the Field of View for Standard Lateral Arthroscopy of the Canine Shoulder

-what percentage of the subscapularis tendon was within arthroscopic view?
-what % biceps tendon at standing angle?
-what manipulation to increase biceps % visible?
what % cranial border of MGH ligament visible?

A

-20% subscap in view
-48% at standing angle
-shoulder flexion, see 63% biceps tendon

Q

Zann, Vet surg 2023
Long-term outcome of dogs treated by surgical debridement of proximal humeral osteochondrosis

-what was the difference in load between limbs?
-what were arthroscopic findings?

A

-4.4% reduced load in operated limb, no diff in PVF or VI.
-all joints had patchy infill of cartilage. moderate to severe synovitis all joints.

reduced muscle mass, reduced flexion and extension on operated limb.
owners perceived mobility satisfactory.

-what complication was encountered?
-what post-operative coaptation was used?

A

-screw loosening in 2/6, managed conservatively.

-no post-operative coaptaiton.

Q

Jones, VCOT 2019
Measurement of Shoulder Abduction Angles in Dogs: An Ex Vivo Study of Accuracy and Repeatability

-what factor can affect abduction angles (and by what magnitude does it alter it)?

A

shoulder flexion angle - neutral standing angle can increase by 8% compared to extended shoulder.

Q

Vezzoni, VCOT 2021
A modification of the Cheli craniolateral approach for minimally invasive treatment of osteochondritis dissecans of the shoulder in dogs: description of the technique and outcome in 164 cases

-Describe the approach (which muscles does the incision go between)

-what manouvere can be performed to aid identification of loose flaps

A

1.Skin incision from just cranial to acromion to greater tubercle, with shoulder in forced flexion
2. blunt dissect between supraspinatus and cranial edge of acromial head of the deltoid.
3. incise joint capsule

repositioning the shoulder into a neutral
position and applying gentle distal traction while flushing the caudal joint space can help to find loose flap

Q

Von Pfeil, Vet surg 2021
Orthopedic and ultrasonographic examination findings in 128 shoulders of 64 ultra-endurance Alaskan sled dogs

-what was the most common painful structure?
-what was most common ultrasonographic abnormality?
-what was range of shoulder abduction angles? what affected shoulder abduction angle?

A

-Biceps tendon most common (30%)
-Most common ultrasonographic abnormality was biceps fluid - similar between non painful and painful shoulders
- shoulder abduction angles ranged from 25 to 75 degrees ( in normal joints!) and was increased by anaesthesia.

ultrasound findings poorly correlated to pathology.

Effects of shoulder distraction on canine shoulder arthroscopy

-what improvement in distraction was achieved with leipzig?
-what positive effects of leipzig distraction?
-what was the impact on visualisation of intraarticular structures

A

-4mm extra distraction
-fewer iatrogenic cartilage lesions and was faster.
-no impact on visualisation

-most common reason for arthrodesis?
-angle aimed for?
-minor complications?
-how many dogs had full functional recovery?
-what % bodyweight on limb

A

shoulder luxation most common cause

110-120 degrees

2/12 (17% minor complications)

**11/12 full functional recovery (92%)

-32% bodyweight, symmetry index 9%**

Outcome of Supraglenoid Tubercle Fractures in 12 Dogs

-what was the success rate?
-major complication rate?
-minor complication rate?

-what factor was associated with a higher success rate and lower complication rate?
-most common fixation method?

-what late complication was encountered?

A

75% success
-2/12 (17%) major complicatinos
-minor complications 75%

-simple fractures did better with lower complication rate than comminuted
-pin and tension band wire

-late complication: biceps tendonitis
