Shoulder Joint Flashcards
One of the most mobile and least stabile joints in the body.
Glenohumeral Joint
Humeral elevation that occurs in the scapular plane. 30 degrees forward in the frontal plane.
Scaption
Attachment around the rim of the glenoid fossa of the scapula and the anatomical neck of the humerus.
Joint Capsule
Reinforce the anterior portion of capsule. Superior, Middle, Inferior
Glenohumeral Ligaments
Attaches from the lateral side of coracoid process and spans the joint anteriorly to the medial side of the greater tubercle. Strengthens the upper part of the joint capsule.
Coracohumeral Ligament
Ring of fibrocartilage that surrounds the rim of the glenoid fossa.
Glenoid Labrum
______ function is to deepen the articular cavity.
Glenoid Labrum
SuprapinatusInfraspinatusTeres MinorSubscapularis(SITS)
Rotator Cuff
The SITS muscles help the head of the humerus _____ against the glenoid fossa during movement.
Rotating
Area near supraspinatus’s insertion onto the humerus that is poorly vascularized. “Critical Zone”.
Supraspinatus Tendon
Full shoulder abduction is only possible if the shoulder joint is also _______. This allows the greater tubercle to rotate from under the acromion process.
Externally Rotated
Prime Movers Flexion
Anterior Deltoid, Pectoralis Major
Prime Movers Extension
Posterior Deltoid, Latissimus Dorsi, Teres Major, Pectoral Major
Prime Movers Hyperextension (Any extension past neutral)
Latissimus Dorsi, Posterior Deltoid
Prime Movers Abduction
Suprapinatus, Deltoid
