Basic Kinesiology & Review of Terminology Flashcards
Kinesiology
Is the study of movement.
Biomechanics
The mechanical principles applied to the study of biological functions.
Static
Non-moving.
Dynamic
Moving.
Kinetics
The study of motion under the action of forces.
Kinematics
The time, space, and mass aspects of a moving system.
Fundamental Position
Same as anatomical position except the palms face the sides of the body.
Linear Motion
AKA translatory motion. Occurs in more or less a straight line from one location to another.
Rectilnear Motion
Motion where all parts of a moving body move in the same direction and the path follows a straight line.
Curvilinear Motion
If movement occurs in a curved path that isn’t necessary circular.
Angular (Rotary) Motion
Movement of an object around a fixed point. Most joint motion in the body is this type of movement.
Osteokinematics
Gross movement of bones at joints.
Arthrokinematics
Joint surface movements.
Protraction
Linear movement of a part forward.
Retraction
Linear movement of a part backward.
