shoulder (final) Flashcards
name the ligaments of the shoulder?
- coracoAcromial
- CoracoClsvicular
(conoid, trapezoid Ligament) - AcromioClavicular
- Glenohumeral
- sterno clavicular
name the 5 joints of the shoulder?
- acromioclavicular jt
- glenohumeral jt
- coracovicular jt
- sternoclavicular jt
- scapulothoracic jt
how can a scapular # occur?
- direct impact
- FOOSH
s/s of scapular #?
- pain during shoulder movement.
- swelling and POT
management of scapular #?
- sling immediately & X-ray
- sling for 3 wk w/ overhead strengthening at week 1.
MOI for humeral #?
- direct blow
- FOOSH
types of humeral #?
- shaft (brachial artery runs along the humorous of the shaft, and damage may occur to the artery fallowing a #?)
- surgical neck (most frequent)
- supracondylar (close to elbow)
- epiphyseal (growth plates)
TR of humeral #?
- splint in comfortable position.
- arm and shoulder in a sling and swath
- go to hospital
what is shoulder bursitis?
- inflammation of the subacromial &/ or subdeltiod bursa. (which is located above the humerus and under the acromion.
what causes shoulder bursitis?
- also associated with shoulder impingement.
- direct trauma to the shoulder
- overuse repetitive abduction and overhead motion (volleyball, tennis, basketball players)
s/s of someone w/ shoulder bursitis?
- pain during the painful arch, which is ROM from 80-120 degrees. at this range the bursa is being pinched between the humeral head and acromial arch.
treatment for shoulder bursitis/ impignment?
- active rest from mechanism.
- anti inflammatory modalities
- NSAIDS
- chronic conditions the person may require cortisone by a physican
- strengthen muscles around scapula
s/s of biceps tendonitis?
- increased pain through the shoulder, (shoulder flexion)
- long head of biceps becomes inflamed in the bicipital groove.
- pain over bicipital groove with rotation.
what is a test for biceps tendonitis?
- speeds sign.
treatment for biceps tendonitis?
- PIER
- ultrasound
- EMS
- NSAIDS
- recondition exercises of (RC, biceps, scapular stabilizers)
what is a biceps brachia rupture?
- a strong contraction that allows the biceps brachii to snap, and bunch up into a ball.
s/s of biceps brachii rupture?
- Px hears a snap, sudden & intense pain.
- bulge appears in the middle of the bicep.
- weakness with elbow flexion and supination
treatment for biceps brachii rupture?
- ice for hemorrhaging
- are in sling & refer to physical ASAP.
- required surgery.
what is rotator cuff tendonitis?
- this is a overuse injury that can be cause with lots of in and external motion with the arm in a abduction position. inflammation of the rotator cuff. can be cause by direct trauma also.
name 6 factor affecting shoulder impingement?
▪ Repetitive overhead activities
▪ Weak RC musculature – esp. Infraspinatus
(IF), Teres minor (TM)
▪ Very narrow subacromial space
▪ Lack of flexibility – SS or biceps brachii and IF,
TM
▪ Hypermobile shoulder joints
▪ Muscular imbalances (particular scapular
stabilizers)
s/s of rotator cuff tendonitis?
- Deep achy pain
- Pain in mid-range of abduction (painful arc)
- Atrophy of supraspinatus & infraspinatus
SPECIAL TEST
- + empty can
- + Kennedy – Hawkins test
- + Neers Impingement test
name the 4 rotator cuff muscles from anterior to posterior?
- subscapularis
- supraspinatus
- infraspinatus
- teres minor
how do yo treat someone with shoulder tendonitis?
- rest, ice, IMS, ultrasound
- proper strength rehab of the posterior muscles (trapezius, rhomboids and lateral rotators) and anterior muscles. need to have a good balance of both
- eccentric exercises.
what is adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder)?
- chronic inflammation w/ contracted, inelastic RC muscles.
- contracted and thickened joint capsule.
s/s of adhesive capsulitis?
Pain on all movements
Limited A/PROM
Resistance on all movement
how do you treat/ manage someone with frozen shoulder?
- joint mobilization and stretching tight musculatures.
- maintain the range of motion that the person does have.
- heat
name 6 things that should be done to help prevent shoulder injuries?
- good balance between strength and flexibility
- proper warm-ep
- use of proper technique
- training how to fall properly
- training how to take and give a hit
6.. wearing protective EQM that help absorb and dissipate force of impact.
3 special test for rotator cuff tendinitis/ impingement?
- Hawkins Kennedy +
- neers +
- empty can +
What is glenoid Librium
It’s a cartilage in the GH joint that thickens the overall joint of the glenoid humerous
