Question 1 (a). Explain what ‘social loafing’ is and provide an example of social loafing at work
A:
Social loafing is when people are prone to exert less effort on a task if they are in a group versus when they work alone.
Example:
Put into a team at work for a new project where I did not do much work. I could get away with this because the team was to big
Question 1 (b). What are three (3) factors that can reduce social loafing?
A:
- Decrease group size - to reduce the feeling of anonymity within a group
- Establish accountability - to ensure all group members have clear responsibilities
- Set clear, challenging goals for all group members to meet
Question 2 (a). Discuss these three character dimensions associated with leaders. ‘Humility’, ‘Integrity’, ‘Collaboration’. Provide an example to illustrate your understanding.
A:
Humility- the quality of having a modest or low view of
one’s importance
- self aware, respectful, reflective
Integrity- the quality of being honest and having strong moral principals
collaboration- works well with others, open minded, flexible, invests time to build relationships, handles conflicts well
Example:
- talk about a having a boss that doesn’t demonstrate any of these traits and a boss that does.
- boss that doesn’t can lose the trust and respect of workers
whereas
- boss that does will gain trust and respect and employees work harder and longer
Question 2 (b). Briefly discuss whether character can be learned, developed, shaped or molded?
A:
yes it can be learned, developed, shaped or molded
because
- character is always developing and changing through different experiences you get during life. not born with character, it is learned as you get older and grow
- people closest to you have biggest impact on your character
