Shock Flashcards
Definition of Shock
Widespread inadequate tissue perfusion
Common Signs of Shock
Cool, pale, diaphoretic, thready pulse
Fick Principle
Air in and out, blood round and round, tissues perfused
4 Types of Shock
Cardiogenic, hypovolemic, obstructive, distributive
Obstructive Shock
Cardiac Tamponade, Tension Pneumo, Pulmonary Embolism
Hypovolemic Shock
Hemmorragic hypovolemic shock and non-hemmorragic
Distributive Shock
Septic, Neurogenic, anaphylactic, psychogenic
AMI
Acute Myocardia Infarction - blockage of blood/oxygen to heart
Cardiac Tamponade cause, signs, and symptoms
Blood/Fluid in potential space of Pericardium and Myocardium. Chest pain, Narrow pulse pressure, muffled heart sound, JVD, hypotension.
Pulmonary Embolism cause, signs, and symptoms
Blood clot, air, foreign body in pulmonary artery. Sharp pinpoint paint and decreased o2
Tension Pneumothorax
Pressure in the potential space of thoracic cavity
Hemorrhagic hypovolemic shock cause, signs, and symptoms
internal/external bleeding. Thready pulse, ALOC, cyanosis, increased respirations
non-hemorrhagic hypovolemic shock cause, signs, and symptoms
Loss of plasma (heat stroke, vomitting, diarrhea). Hot, Flushed, dry, thready pulse, ALOC
Septic Shock cause, signs, and symptoms
Widespread infection. hot, flushed, diaphoretic, tachycardia, hypotensive
Neurogenic Shock cause, signs, and symptoms
Spinal Cord cut. Tony two toned (Shock above, flushed, dry, warm then cool below)
