Shock Flashcards
What is Hypovolemic shock?
condition of inadequate organ perfusion caused by loss of intravascular volume (acute)
Causes of hypovolemic shock?
Hemorrhagic, trauma, GI bleed, fluid loss, Vomiting/diarrhea, burns, diuresis, ruptured ectopic pregnancy, placenta previa, abruptio placenta
How long is the body able to compensate in hypovolemic shock?
Until 30% of blood volume lost
Treatments of hypovolemic shock and order of?
Control bleed, transport, fluid resus, txa, vasopressors (depending on condition)
VS in hypovolemic shock?
Peripherally cold, tachycardia, hypotension, orthostatic changes (decreased bp, increased HR)
How do you determine the shock index?
If patient HR is greater than BP shock index is less than 1, if the patient BP is greater than HR shock index is greater than or equal to 1.
