What is Hypovolemic shock?

A

condition of inadequate organ perfusion caused by loss of intravascular volume (acute)

Causes of hypovolemic shock?

A

Hemorrhagic, trauma, GI bleed, fluid loss, Vomiting/diarrhea, burns, diuresis, ruptured ectopic pregnancy, placenta previa, abruptio placenta

A

Peripherally cold, tachycardia, hypotension, orthostatic changes (decreased bp, increased HR)

How do you determine the shock index?

A

If patient HR is greater than BP shock index is less than 1, if the patient BP is greater than HR shock index is greater than or equal to 1.
