Q
What are you checking for in every patient with ALOC and febrile? How would you check for it?
A
Nuchal rigidity (Brudzinski, Babinski, Kernigs), NV, H/A, Photophobia?
Babinski - + when upward movement (dorsiflexion) of big toe with fanning of other toes. Severe cases knee and hips flexed.
Brudzinski - + when passive flexion of the neck leads to flexing of the knees, hips, or both.
Kernigs - + patient lays supine with hips at 90 degrees, when knee is flexed and their is pain or resistance to flexion, this is a positive sign and indicates CNS dysfunction.
