Shock Flashcards
What is shock
Cells do not get nutrients to make ATP
Types of shock
Cardiogenic
Neurogenic
Septic
Hypovolaemic
Anaphylactic
Distributive
What is the equation for mean arterial blood pressure (MABP)
MABP = HR x SV x TPR
What causes anaphylactic shock
Total peripheral resistance falls and heart rate slows, so there is a decrease in BP
Treatment of anaphylactic shock
Adrenaline to increase HR and increase TPR, also stabilising myocytes. Oxygen and IV fluids
What causes hypovolaemic shock
Stroke volume falls, and HR and TPR increase to try and compensate
Treatmetn of hypovolaemic shock
Replace the fluid that is lost such as blood. Stop bleeding
What causes septic shock
TPR falls
Treatment of septic shock
Need to vasoconstrict vessels with pressors and fluids, give ABx
What causes cardiogenic shock
SV fall and HR falls
Treatment of cardiogenic shock
Get the heart working again which is the hardest shock to treat
What causes neurogenic shock
HR and TPR fall
Treatment of neurogenic shock
Inotropes and pressors
What happens in distributive shock
Decrease in stroke volume
What is distributive shock
Mechanical causes that are resulting in the heart being unable to pump out the stroke volume effectively
