What does SHARP stand for?
Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention
What is the purpose of SHARP?
To enhance Army readiness by fostering a culture free of sexual harassment and
sexual assault through prevention, education and training, response capability,
victim support, reporting procedures, and appropriate accountability that
enhances the safety, well-being, readiness.
What is sexual assault?
Intentional and unwanted sexual contact, characterized by use of force, threats,
intimidation, abuse of authority or when the victim does not or cannot consent.
What are the 3 categories of sexual harassment?
➢ Verbal
■ Sexual jokes, cat-calling, sexual comments
➢ Nonverbal
■ Inappropriate staring, blowing kisses, winking
➢ Physical Contact
■ Touching, bumping, pinching
What are the 2 types of sexual harassment?
➢ Quid Pro Quo
■ “This for that”; conditions placed on a person’s career or terms of
employment in return for favors.
● Examples include demanding sexual favors in exchange for a
promotion, award, or favorable assignment.
➢ Hostile Environment
■ An environment where the person is subjected to offensive, unwanted
and unsolicited comments, or conduct of a sexual nature.
Who can you report a sexual complaint to?
SARC, Chain of Command, or SHARP VA
What are the 3 ways a soldier can submit a SHARP complaint?
➢ Formally via DA 7746
➢ Informally to a full-time brigade-level SARC
➢ Anonymously by any means from an unidentified complainant.
What the the 2 reporting options for sexual assault?
➢ Unrestricted
■ Triggers an investigation
■ Command notified
■ Access to healthcare treatment
■ Assignment of a SARC and a SHARP VA or VR.
➢ Restricted
■ Does not trigger an investigation
■ Allows a sexual assault victim to confidentially disclose the details of his
or her assault to specified individuals (SARC, VA or Chaplain)
■ Access to healthcare treatment
