What is the purpose of SHARP program?
Reinforces the Army’s commitment to eliminate incidents of sexual assault through training and education
When do the Army’s SHARP policies apply?
Both on and off post during duty and non-duty hours
What are the goals of SHARP?
- Create a climate that minimizes sexual assault incidents
- Encourage victims to report incidents of sexual assault without fear
- Establish prevention training and awareness programs
- Endure leaders understand their roles and responsibilities
Define sexual assault
Intentional sexual contact by use of force, threat or abuse or when a victim cannot consent
Sexual assault includes what acts?
- Rape
- Non-consensual sodomy( oral or anal sex)
- Unwanted, inappropriate sexual contact or fondling
- Attempts to commit these acts
More than half of sexual assault offenses include what?
Alcohol
Prevention of sexual harassment is whose responsibility?
Commanders but every individual should assume personal responsibility

One who has been sexually assaulted

One who has been accused of committing a crime

What is the Army’s policy on sexual assault?
It is a criminal offense that degrades mission readiness and is punishable under UCMJ. The Army will treat victims with fairness and respect.
If someone has been sexually assaulted, to whom may they report the crime?
- Chain of Command
- Medical Treatment Facility
- Military Police/ Criminal Investigation Division
- Chaplains
- Social Work Services
- Family Advocacy
- Legal Services
AR 27-10 outlines the rights of crime victims, what are they?
- Right to be treated with fairness
- Right to be protected from accused offender
- Notified of court proceedings
- Right to be present at all public court proceedings
- Right the talk to an attorney for the Government
- Right to seek restitution, if appropriate
- Right to information regarding conviction, sentencing, imprisonment and release of the offender
What must Commanders do to implement and support the Army’s SHARP Program?
- Ensure all assigned personnel are familiar with SHARP
- Publish and post written command policy statements
- Continually assess and be aware of the climate of the command regarding SHARP
- Set the Standard
What are the categories of sexual harassment and give some examples
- Verbal - sexual jokes, profanity, threats, sexually oriented cadences or sexual comments
- Nonverbal - staring at someone, blowing kisses, winking, or licking one’s lips in a suggestive manner
- Physical Contact - touching, patting, pinching, bumping, grabbing, cornering or blocking a passageway
