shapes of molecules Flashcards
What is VSEPR Theory?
Lone pairs and bonding pairs around the central atom arrange themselves in such a way that repulsion forces are least between them.
What is the order of the force of repulsion between specific bonds?
lone pair - loan pair ( highest)
lone pair- bond pair (2nd highest)
bond pair - bond pair ( 3rd highest)
What are some facts about shapes of molecules?
1) shape is always determined around central atom
2) a molecule should have at least two bonds for angle
3) The double and triple bonds are always considered as one bonding pair
