ENERGETICS Flashcards
What are the two types of reactions?
Exothermic Reaction : Heat is given out, energy of reactants is greater than energy of products. Temp of surrounding increases.
Endothermic Reaction: Heat is absorbed, Energy of products is more than energy of reactants. Temp of surrounding decreases.
What are some examples of endothermic reactions?
1) Photosynthesis
2) Thermal Decomposition
3) Solid to Liquid to Gas
4) acid+ Bicabronate reaction
5) Dissolving of some salts
What are examples of some exothermic reactions?
1) Neutralization Reactions
2) Combustion/Burning
3) Respiration
4) Haber Process
5) Contact Process
6) Gas to liquid to solid
What is Enthalpy Change?
Heat change under certain conditions of temperature and pressure
What is standard enthalpy change?
Enthalpy change under standard conditions of 298K and 1ATM
What is the energy of elements in their standard state?
0
What is the standard enthalpy change of formation?
It is the enthalpy change when 1 mol of a compound is formed from constituent elements of that compound under standard conditions.
What is standard energy change of combustion?
It is the enthalpy change, when 1 mol of substance completely combusts in excess of O2 under standard conditions.
