PREVENTIONS AND CONTROL FOR STI
- Safe sex
- AVOIDING sharing of needles and razors
- Screening of blood donors
CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS od STIs
- SKIN LESIONS
- DISCHARGE
Usually accompanied by dysuria , dyspareunia , and vulvar irritation
VAGINAL DISCHARGE
Thin, foamy, foul-smelling
TRICHOMONAS VAGINALIS
Greenish, purulent
NEISSERIA GONORRHEA
Thick, cheesy exudates ( milk curd-like appearance)
CANDIDA ALBICANS
In males, any urethral discharge other than ejaculation is ABNORMAL
URETHRAL DISCHARGE
THIRD most common sexually transmitted duseases worldwide. It is a strict human pathogen. It is sensitive to oxygen. The organism cannot be grown in cell-free culture medium
SYPHILIS
A highly infectious stage with abundant organisms that can be isolated from the ulcer. The primary lesion is called chancre.
PRIMARY SYPHILIS
Primary lesion of syphilis; painless Nd well-delineated
CHANCRE
Ulcer with ragged edges;painful
CHANCROID
Start as a vesicle that becomes an ulcer after rupture
GENITAL HERPERS
Commonly seen in secondary syphilis, gonorrhea, anx candidiasis
RASHES
Characteristic of condylomata acuminata and molluscum contagiousum
WARTY LESIONS
SYPHILIS IS CAUSED BY
TREPONEMA PALLIDUM
SECOND most common STI worldwide. Occurs obly in humans for it has no animal reservoir. Females are asymotomatic carriers of the infection.
GONORRHEA
GONORRHEA IS CAUSED BY
NEISSERIA GONORRHOEAE ( A Kidney bean-shaped when it is single and coffee bean shaped when in pairs.
LYMPHOGRANULOMA VENEREUM (LGV ) IS CAUSED BY
CHLAMYDIA TRACHOMATIS ( an obljgate intracellular bacteria that do not have cell walls.
ETIOLOGIC AGENT FOR CHANCROID
HAEMOPHILUS DUCREYI
haemophilus means “blood-loving”
GENITAL HERPES IS CAUSED BY
Herpes Simplex Virus
INfections ABOVE the waist (HERPES LABIALIS ) are usually caused by
HSV TYPE 1
INFECTIONS BELOW THE WAIST IS CAUSED BY
HSV TYPE 2
A consequence of genital herpes in newborns is
NEONATAL HERPES ( Acquired through the infected birth canal during delivery)
ETIOLOGIC AGENT FOR PUBIC LICE
Phthirus pubis
The organism is tiny, about 2 mm long, and visible to the naked eye. It is a parasitic insects that feeds on the blood of the host.
PEDICULOSIS PUBIS ( Pubic lice / CRABS
Treatment for PEDICULOSIS PUBIS ( Pubic lice or Scrabs )
INSECTICIDAL CREAMS, LOTIONS, AND SHAMPOOS CONTAIN 1% MALATHION OR PERMETHRIN
Most COMMON STI WORLDWIDE
GONORRHEA
Cauliflower-like, flesh-colored, gray, or whitish growths.
GENITAL WARTS
